Yes, the West developed in the days before institutions like the World Bank were established; local banking and early companies like the East India company played a role in industrialization. As countries in Asia and Africa decolonized, they had the opportunity to get access to cheap financing by agencies like the World Bank. Those that managed to develop were those countries that used their own resources efficiently, like Japan and South Korea. When China and India opened up their economies (after 1978 and 1991 respectively), they also developed. Africa needs to follow these models of open, trading economies. Seldom has foreign aid been the primary basis of successful development. https://tilakdoshi.substack.com/p/why-singapore-thrives-while-the-uk
Alas, getting free money from the climate grifters at the UN seem to be an easier way out for many African leaders rather than the tough job of running a successful economy.
If history is any guide the green push, which will abort any growth in Africa will funnel billions of dollars into the hands of corrupt leaders. What’s new.
My ignorant but genuine question is, why do African nations need outside help, donations and approval to develop the coal or other fossil fuels they want? Why can't they just go ahead and do it, like we did? Europe and America developed themselves without any such help - or is it hindrance? - from outside, didn't they? Explanation would be greatly appreciated.
Follow the money. If African leaders can make a Green case and the developed world buy into funding green energy we'll pay and the leaders will play, leaving the people of the various countries with cow dung heating and an unreliable power grid.
My question is, why do they need to "make a case" to the developed world at all? Why is it any of our business ? If African leaders want to mine their own coal to power their development what is preventing them? Our ancestors in Europe did it, why is it not possible for Africa to do what we did?
