The eclipse did not create the tiniest blip in the already ramped up gas usage. There was a tiny dip, then up and then down on solar as the sun set. Solar makes such a tiny contribution in the evening.
I assume it was just scare tactics or maybe people really did avoid using the washing machine. Again, though, this didn't show in overall usage either!
