Tory Wets Come Out Into the Open

Seven Tory MPs skipped the ECHR vote. All belong to the pro-Net Zero Tory green lobby. Coincidence?

This week, the Tories laid a motion before Parliament to “condemn the Government’s plan to place illegal migrants in MoD Bicester; and call on the Government to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights in order to deport illegal migrants.”

Predictably the motion was rejected by 309 votes to 113. But the significance of the vote was just where those 113 votes came from, or more precisely where they did not.

Official figures show that 103 Conservative MPs voted for the motion, including the two tellers. The rest of the vote came from Reform and DUP.

But there are 117 sitting Conservative MPs, so it appears that some did not vote for the motion. Some, of course, may have been genuinely absent, but according to Guido there are several notable non-voters, some of whom had previously expressed reservations about leaving the ECHR.

Below is the list who were absent from the vote, according to Grok:

Where there is a wet in favour of the ECHR, there is usually also a wet in favour of Net Zero!
