You tend to avoid the subject of half of France, Spain and Italy being on fire this weekend Toby….is that too much of an inconvenient truth ?….

What makes you think that these wildfires are specifically caused by a change in the climate?

Much more likely related to arson, bbq's and land mismanagement imo

Obviously something has to ignite a fire in the first place and that can be any of the examples you mentioned. The point is why are these fires becoming comparatively more frequent and of a higher magnitude in recent years - it’s not hard to see the link between hotter drier summers and climate change in that….all of which has been predicted by the way along with more volatile sometimes very wet winters and rising sea levels…

You are correct that John Rapley sees an impossible dilemma over net zero. But read the article closely. Among other things, he says the UK should double down on renewables and zero out natural gas, all for the purpose of reducing energy costs.
