The point is why are these fires becoming comparatively more frequent and of a higher magnitude in recent years - it’s not hard to see the link between hotter drier summers and climate change in that….all of which has been predicted by the way along with more volatile sometimes very wet winters and rising sea levels…
You are correct that John Rapley sees an impossible dilemma over net zero. But read the article closely. Among other things, he says the UK should double down on renewables and zero out natural gas, all for the purpose of reducing energy costs.

What makes you think that these wildfires are specifically caused by a change in the climate?
